The World Intellectual Property Organization targets the judiciary and law enforcement officials.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in collaboration with the Government of Saint Lucia will host a two-day workshop with the aim to improve knowledge on Intellectual Property Rights in Saint Lucia.
The workshop, supported by the island’s Registry of Companies and Intellectual Property of the Attorney General's Chambers, will focus on the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights for the Judiciary and Law Enforcement Officials specifically targeting judges, magistrates, prosecutors, customs, the police, lawyers and other types of law enforcement agencies.
Participants will obtain first-hand information from presenters including former Deputy President of the Supreme Court of Appeal in South Africa, Hon. Judge Louis Harms; and Louise Van Greunen, Director of Building Respect for Intellectual Property Division within the Global Issues Sector of WIPO.
Officials say the event is timely, especially with the apparent increased levels of piracy of copyrighted material and counterfeit goods in business and trade globally.
The workshop will be held at the Coco Palm Hotel in Rodney Bay, Gros Islet on July 11 and 12, and will assist in providing fair, efficient and consistent handling and adjudication of Intellectual Property cases in the country.
