A RECENTLY LAUNCHED HANDBOOK IS EXPECTED TO TRANSFORM MATH INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS.
Students and teachers will benefit from easier access to resources that will help enhance lesson planning and delivery in the subject area of Mathematics, following the launch of a new math handbook.
The Department of Education, Innovation, and Gender Relations launched the handbook recently. The text is expected to transform the teaching and learning of Mathematics.
Deputy Permanent Secretary Michelle Charles, said the handbook is timely as education officials aim to improve the overall curriculum and Mathematics instruction methods.
“I commend the efforts of all those who contributed to the Mathematics handbook we are launching today. It shows their commitment, dedication, awareness and vision which has culminated in such a production. It is our hope that this handbook is embraced by all instructors within our schools and that we see a change in the attitude towards Mathematics and an improvement in our math pass rate. The ministry wishes to acknowledge and thank profusely the entities which partnered with us to make this a reality.”
Deputy Chief Education Officer for Instruction Ruffina Charles, said the initiative demonstrates that educators are on the right path to bringing a revolution in Mathematics.
“Today, this launch of the handbook is another effort to improve our students’ performance in Mathematics as well as the effectiveness of our teachers in Mathematics instruction,” she said.
The launch of the Mathematics handbook was made possible through the financial support of UNESCO.
The handbook was launched at the Finance Administrative Centre.
