THE SERVICE MARKS SAINT LUCIA’S 45TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE.

Brace yourselves for an unforgettable moment as Saint Lucia prepares to host the National Ecumenical Service, a soul-stirring celebration marking the island's 45th Anniversary of Independence.

Set against the backdrop of the Sacred Heart Parish in Marchand, the national service is scheduled for Friday, February 16, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and will imbue an atmosphere of togetherness echoing the theme, "Douvan Ansanm - Building a Nation Through Unity, Resilience, and Creativity."

The Ministry of Equity, Social Justice, and Empowerment, entrusted with Ecclesiastical Affairs, extends a heartfelt invitation to all. “We call upon civil society organizations to rally their members, infusing the praise and workshop activities with the collective energy of a nation united,” noted Deputy Permanent Secretary Cecilia Charles Arthur.

The religious community is urged to center their day of worship on the chosen theme and inspire their congregants to adorn themselves in the vibrant colors of the national flag from February 16 to February 18, 2024.

Esteemed guests attending will be Acting Governor-General, H.E Errol Charles, Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre, and Leader of the Opposition Hon. Allen Chastanet. Joining them will be members of Parliament, diplomats, and specially invited guests, ensuring a gathering of significance and unity.

All Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) affiliated with the Ministry of Equity and staff of the Public Service are welcome to be part of the national service.

Hon. Joachim Henry, Minister for Equity, passionately emphasizes the significance of the Ecumenical service, highlighting its pivotal role in the Independence celebrations. He underscored the importance of seeking divine intervention in our collective journey as a people and nation. “Let the echoes of unity resound, let resilience be our anthem, and let creativity pave the way forward,” noted Minister Henry.

Special arrangements have been made to transport persons from the city of Castries from 8:30 a.m. to the Sacred Heart Parish in Marchand, and back.
